I believe God has called each of us to this place at this time to serve here.  He has placed us in this body for a specific purpose.  We as a body can reflect Christ to the people of Maypearl.

In addition to serving as a Deacon at FBC Maypearl, I work with the Royal Ambassadors (RA’s) on Wednesday evenings.  My wife, Shannon, and I have a son, Elijah, and two daughters, Grace and Faith.

“In Christ Alone” is my favorite hymn.

My favorite verse in the Bible is Galations 2:20, which reads:

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

What a blessing it is to serve as Church Secretary here at FBC. I believe that God has been preparing me over the years to be here at such a time as this.
I tell the story of driving past the church one Sunday Morning on one of those rare occasions when we still had ice and snow on the ground after a few days of cold winter weather. It really caught my attention that there were so many cars in the parking lot at the church on a day that wasn’t the best for getting out in. When I returned home, I told my husband, Rusty, “The Holy Spirit must really be moving at that First Baptist Church in Maypearl – there sure are a lot of people there even with the weather being like it is.“
Needless to say, we visited to see for ourselves what God was doing at this big church in the little town of Maypearl. From the first visit, it was obvious to us why so many attended church here. This Body of Believers so graciously reflects the love of Jesus in every way. They made us feel so welcomed; from the great big welcome smile of Danny Scroggins and the Posse Team; to the special praise and worship in music led by Mike Haun, followed by an awesome sermon from our pastor, Tony Sheffield…we knew we had found our church home, and we’ve been here since.
I can’t remember a time in my life that I didn’t believe in Jesus Christ. I can’t imagine what life would be like without my relationship with Him. My heart breaks to see men, women and children who have no idea what life could be for them if they only knew Jesus. It’s my desire to help bring people to the knowledge of Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit – to lead them to the truth that will set them free; and to say “Here am I, Lord” use me in a way that you will be glorified.
One of my favorite Bible Scriptures is 1 John 3:1 “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called Children of God.”
A couple of my favorite hymns are“I’ll Fly Away” and “As the Deer Panteth for the Water”. Another Christian song that’s a favorite of mine is “Praise You in This Storm” by Casting Crowns. Whenever life isn’t going quite the way you want it…remember to Praise Him in the Storm.
Love in Christ,

David Shaw
