Favorite Christian Songs: My Jesus I Love Thee, Days of Elijah, Screendoor on a Submarine, and Sail On

Favorite Verses: Romans 6: 23 and Ephesians 1: 13-14

One of the greatest life lessons I have ever learned is the importance of having great people around you. Going back to my days of being a college athlete and a coach, I know that a person is usually only as good as the team they have around them. Individuals do not win in team sports and seldom win in life. We all need great people around us. The Bible has a lot to say about family, and I have been truly blessed with a fantastic family. God has blessed me with a godly wife, Eileen. She loves the Lord, is a prayer warrior, and is one of the funniest people I know. Those three traits make for an interesting life! She is a fantastic mother to our two children, Nick and Kelsi. Nick is a college student and an awesome young man. He is a great son and a friend. We enjoy playing and watching sports together. Kelsi is a little Eileen. She has a vibrant personality and is very funny. She loves her family, her friends, and her church. God has placed incredible people around me.

It is truly amazing to be the pastor of First Baptist Maypearl! The Bible tells us that God is the one who puts His church together, and He has assembled a remarkable group of people here to accomplish His purposes around the world. That’s right, around the world. God has given us a vision much bigger than Maypearl or even Texas, and I know how big y’all think Texas is… He has called us to make a difference , and we are committed to it. I have never seen a church so loving as this one. I have watched our people meet needs of countless people over the years. They have given sacrificially of their time, talents, and resources many times over, simply because God has called them to be His ministers. For over 14 years, God has allowed me to be involved in ministry with this great church We have seen over 500 people saved and baptized, we have built a new building together, and we will continue to reach the world for Jesus Christ as He leads us. I encourage you to come and visit one of our services and experience God at work in the lives of His people! Maybe you want to come to our Family Life Center during the week to work out or play a game, or just check out the facility. As you see our awesome facility, just remember, the church is the people and these are some of God’s best!

Hope to meet you soon,

Tony

Paul Bowman,

Recreation/Children’s Pastor

A native of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Paul Bowman has been in ministry since 1992 when he graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. After having served at churches in east and west Tennessee,  He and his family are moving to Maypearl from Lebanon, Missouri.  His wife of 24 years, Margie, is mom to Hannah, 21 who attends Northeastern State University in Tallequah, OK; Luke, 16, a sophomore; Sarah, 14, an 8th grader, and Rachel, 10, a 5th grader.

Paul began at FBC Maypearl in August as the new Recreation/Children’s Pastor and will be in charge of new ministries such as a monthly Kidventure – a monthly event to which children in 1st through 6th grades can invite their friends. “It’s all about relationship-building,” Bowman said. There will also be a new recreation ministry for Kindergarteners through 6th graders – Upward Basketball. It’s a basketball program for the winter months which involves not only basketball fundamentals, but also devotionals and Christian fundamentals. Upward Basketball is a huge ministry which was started by a friend of Paul’s from South Carolina with just 30 churches. Now the ministry is in more than 500 churches.

Paul will be assessing the recreation ministry needs for all ages and is eager to hear from members about suggestions for recreation ministry ideas.

Matthew 5:16 is Paul’s life verse:  “In the same way, let your light so shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (ESV)

Paul’s hobbies are: sports, movies and history, Oh and he is a HUGE Oklahoma Sooner Fan.  Boomer Sooner.
